from what im aware, he saved the original compositional scores and the original individual recordings (hence their re-use in some other albums), but what was destroyed was the original master tape of the actual MFS album itself, not the individual parts, pre-mixing

but then, in doing so, it would totally devalue the 1-off original LP pressing and also devalue the original objective of the original plan and recording in the first place

what i think JMJ should do is do it again - make a one-off pressing of totally new music on a format that's not easily copyable, and sell its exclusively with the final amount going to charity and the winner of the item would sign a contract to NOT make any copys of it and if that happened, he would be in breach of said contract etc etc

I think you'll find that it was the master plates which pressed the actual vinyl disc that were destroyed and not the master tapes themselves.

I think MFS is ok as a look at where he got ideas from for other albums but I do think it's weak by other album standards. The whole deal with MFS is that fact its only available on bootleg and even then the quality is poor.Fans of Jarre are bound to be desperate for a copy, probably not to (after 1 listening to) listen to but just to say they have it in their collection.I didn't pay but I do have it.I never gave it a second listen to, the samples were poor and the tunes just don't sound like he's put too much effort into it.Jarre knew this album would be destroyed and therefore probably threw it together in no time at all thinking it wold never have the chance to be rated as a proper album.Due to the bootlegs floating around it has been rated (by us mostly) as an album. I therefore cannot listen to it and hear a "real" studio album, more like a mess around with his mates. The idea in the 80's was really different and worked for Jarre's publicity machine but I can't help but think that if none of us had heard it, the mystique of MFS would be bigger and would have kept us all guessing. After all, Jarre only made this album for publicity for himself and to make a point about the music industry at the time thus making it more like a symbol than an album.

Album rating 2/10 (and that's taking the sound quality into consideration).

    These are not true.

Here's a photo of the backside of the LP:

    Intriguing

though the poor quality recordings flying around the net were probably not the original intention of this album, I find its low quality audio a fitting part of the overall piece. Part 4 would probably be the only one I'd like to hear restored and crisp. Still, i don't listen to it often; it's not even on my iPod, but that's because it won't connect to the computer it's on.

I also think it's pretty cool to hear parts of Jarre's music in other contexts. Sort of why I like Cosmic Sound's megamix so much. That would be something I'd like in a new album: partially new score connecting older elements in completely different contexts. I guess AERO did that to an extent, but I mean with individual elements, not whole compositions.
