    Roland AX

This morning dawned on me some great excitement. I've been saving up this year to buy a Roland AX-Synth. A few years ago I had been planning on getting a 7 since it was much cheaper, but ran into several walls looking for a cheap-but-good synth to play it on. Way too much money for my then-income. but when I saw the Rolnd AX-synth announced in Popular Science in April or May last year, I nearly exploded with giddyness. So I figured out that I only needed to set aside $100 a month in order to have enough money by the end of the year. That with my collection of spare change over the years puts me at about $750 saved up. That means my synth is only 3 months away! (two if I can find one for less than $1100) Now if only they came in black...

Not long to go then! The AX synth is a great synth.

It has a lot of JD-800 waveforms in there!
When you get it you can download my patches!

    Oll.

Wow, was it really four months ago that I said that? well, a bit of an update: I failed to get the synth in September, because my art classes at the Art Institute of Salt Lake City Recommended (read "required") that I get a proper tablet and photo editing program. So I dropped the $950 I had saved up on Photoshoppe CS5 and a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet.

The sweet sweet upside to that was that last month, Roland began making the AX synth in "Black Sparkle." That and an innovative payment system have allowed me to purchase this new black beauty with what little I had saved since then. It'll arrive tomorrow (mon, 15Nov2010), and I'm super jazzed.

    Such wonderful times ahead.

Happy late Guy Fawkes and Veterans Days, by the way.

    ick, a double post.

Okay, I'm sitting here messing around with my new keyboard, and I love most of these preset sounds. I just can't get my head around the synth editor. This interface makes a bank of knobs with tiny labels look user-friendly. The instruction manual talks about it as though you have worked with synthesizers for about as long as Jarre or Tomita and barely convers a page (whereas the manual for my TI-83 graphing calculator is about 300 pages long). My first patch edit I'm going for is a 'popcorn' sounding sound, for a home-brew version of Popcorn, and i haven't the slightest idea where to start. Is there anyone that can help me out?

still having a lot of fun with this thing!
