Maurice was actually one of my favourite film score composers, and I knew his music before I knew about JMJ. Unlike many other major film composers, he composed in a variety of styles (traditional symphonic, ethnic, experimental...) and even dabbled in electronic music (the Harrison Ford thriller Witness, for example, for which Maurice stated that using synths were more work than composing for orchestras). He worked on many different kinds of films and also for other mediums; TV, ballet and concerts.

In the mid 90s a TV reporter (Selina-something perhaps?) made a series of interviews for a big TV network (either BBC or NBC in the US) with famous people in France, and among the few people she interviewed were JMJ, Charlotte Rampling and Maurice. It was perhaps the most famous / celebrity family in France then. I should get the interview out and re-watch it. Maurice seemed like a nice guy.

My condolences goes to Jean Michel and his family.
    Greetings from Glenn

    RIP Maurice,

A great composer - his music was always full of atmosphere and managed to capture every moment perfectly in sound.

A sad loss - such a shame that one of the great composers has now left us, but at least his legacy will live on in his music.

I, too, add my condolences to all the family in this very difficult time.

The death of Jarre, who won a third Oscar for his score for A Passage to India, was announced to AFP by the manager of his son, electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre.
