    Unhappy :: Maurice Jarre - September 13th 1924 – March 29th 2009 ::

    In french, sorry.

    Le célèbre compositeur Maurice Jarre, auteur notamment de très nombreuses musiques de films, est mort dimanche à Los Angeles, à l'âge de 84 ans. Il était le père du musicien Jean-Michel Jarre. On lui doit les bandes musicales de "Lawrence d'Arabie" (1962), "Docteur Jivago" (1965), "La route des Indes" - qui lui ont chacune valu un Oscar - mais aussi de "Paris brule-t-il ?" (1966), "Le cercle des poètes disparus" (1989) ou "Ghost" (1990).

    Laras theme from Dr Zhivago... that will be my reminder. It was a tune that played in a wind up jewellry box I used to have when I was little... I'd wind it up constantly and play it over and over... I can hear that tune now..
    I just wished that I still had that jewellry box so I could play that tune just one more time...

    My condolences go to the Jarre family right now. Thinking of them in this, their hour of need.

    PARIS (AFP) — Maurice Jarre, Oscar-winning composer of music for films including "Doctor Zhivago" and "Lawrence of Arabia", died overnight Sunday in Los Angeles aged 84.

    The death of Jarre, who won a third Oscar for his score for "A Passage to India", was announced to AFP by the manager of his son, electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre.

    The elder Jarre wrote the music for more than 150 films by great directors including John Frankenheimer, Alfred Hitchcock, John Huston and Luchino Visconti.

    In 1952 he wrote his first score, for the short "Hotel des Invalides," at the request of director Georges Franju.

    Maurice Jarre, who settled in the United States in the mid-1860s, also wrote symphonic music and music for theatre and ballet.
    Greetings from Glenn
