A 30th Anni of 'Equinoxe' would be most welcome, but after recents with Jarre and Dreyfus, Jarre is probably thinking if it's worth all the hassle again, and to be frank I wouldn't blame him.

A new album of old style Jarre wold be more on the cards. But Equinoxe, well, we just can't get enough of those superb catchy basslines. I know I can't :lights:
"A group of men and woman entered the laboratory one month ago to live in a smell free world. Body odour, sweaty arms pits and smelly feet are to create the energy to survive. A total mystery surrounds this experiment, and it's project code name: B.O and Smell'i "

I'm one of those who feel that Jarre got lost after Zoolook. He has even said that himself in several interviews. While I certainly like a lot of the stuff he did between Zoolook and Oxygene 7-13, I think it was a period where he was more concerned with creating soundtracks to his shows than experimenting with music. I think that other people and artists who hate his music is thinking about this period as well. Too bad, because I think if they opened their ears to the holy trilogy, they would be surprised

However, the best composition he has ever done is IMO Arpeggiator. What a fantastic track! A perfect example on how you create a catchy track with sounds in stead of melody.
I agree with you. I'd love another bizarre, groundbreaking record like 'Zoolook'. It's one of my favorites (along with his first two albums) and it had everything: humour, darkness, crazy sound design and more subtle, tender ambient moments, too. It also explored the human voice and sampling in a way I hadn't heard before or since.

I actually think Oxygene 7-13 is pretty marvelous, though, and I'm not sure why people aren't so keen on it (or why he wasn't himself, if I remember rightly). But no more Oxgene, please! We've had remakes on 'Aero', we've had the 30th anniversary, and heard the tracks plenty of times elsewhere at the live shows. I'd really like a proper new album, finally; how long has it been?

I agree with Robert. Oxy 7-13 was excellent, but if I could have a new album, I'd love to see some more sequencer work like the long intro to Oxygene XII from the live tour and some more of Variation III. Its all a bit Tangerine Dream, but I could listen to that all day, probably the highlight of the live tour for me. Maybe not a very commercial album, but JMJ has to realise too that he is no longer commercial in the sense that he won't be making millions off albums any more and that he has a loyal fanbase that just want new music. And certainly, JMJ has it in himself to do a forty or fifty minute album of ambient music entirely on analogue instruments, mixed with a few virtual sounds and a few of the more "sensual" modern instruments lke the Nordleads or Alesis's of this world.

This has to be the direction he takes next surely. And the sooner the better, personally the excitement I felt for Jarre when a new album was iminent is building again. When I was younger I couldn't sleep waiting for the new albums. These days, yes I'm still excited but not the same way.

    Anyway, here's hoping.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe....

    Cool

In a recent interview Jean Michel said that he never will revisit one of his albums again. Oxygene was the last time. And this time it was very necessary, in his words. He found back to himself, to what he really is.
He said that he will throw nearly all his digital stuff out of the window and from now on using only the Stradivaris and Steinways of Electronic Music.
Ok, it's a bit pitty for Equinoxe, but - who knows - maybe the next album will be a bit equinoxish
    Live long and prosper

    Not exactly.
He will use both vintage and digital gear for coming albums.

I would like Jarre to come up with a large-scale work, in the sort of Ethnicolor, that is akind of electronic opera, mixing lush analogue sounds with choir and profound alen-like sounds, in a work which is to be remained timeless.........

I don't think he should necessarily throw his digital stuff away - there are some really great digital synths out there. The S+S ones will become less and less useful with time as sample quality gets better and better and renders older machines obsolete, but pure synthesizers like the DX7 will always be useful for the creation of totally unique sounds. There are a number of sounds used in Zoolook which could only have been produced on a DX7 and which showcase the DX7's unique abilities every bit as effectively as the sounds on Oxygene or Equinoxe showcase the unique abilities of classic vintage analogue synths. Digital is not necessarily bad - just different. Used in the right way digital synths can be really special.

If he is going to turn Equinoxe into a virtuoso/multimedia affair as he did with Oxygene I say he better not bother, as far as his music itself goes

I agree, I prefer some new stuff rather than another version of a CD I have and love already. I would love to see some anniversary deluxe merchandise come out to celebrate these albums, for sure, but leave Jarres creative juices for the music, new albums, rather than dabbling and tinkering with early (already perfect IMO) works.
