    Equinoxe 30th Aniversary

Dunno if this has been talked about already, but ....

oxygene was released in france in 1976 and equinoxe was released in uk/france august 1978

my point being that we are two years late to celebrate the 30th aniversary of oxygene, its EQUINOXE'S 30th aniversary surley???

so jean michel, when you come to manchester, can you please, please, please perform the two albums back to back??

Now that would be one heck of show!!!!

Oxygene is one of Jarre's biggest successes (if not the biggest?). The current fixation with it is more to do with commercial concerns and a lot less to do with art. Musicians generally don't like being continuously made to revisit their old work, and years ago Jarre declared that he would never do this, in fact he expressly said he wouldn't be doing an "Oxygene 2" - this was before Oxygene 7-13 came along. And this nonsense about the cover art being to do with environmentalism is further testament to this idea. Jarre never said a word in the past about Oxygene being anything to do with the environment.

Some commercial success will probably keep the record company executives happy enough so that Jarre can get back to producing work in his own way again. But I don't expect there will be any more sequels to any of his other albums, other than Oxygene. Equinoxe is a great album, but it's already been done. I don't want Jarre to be constantly rehashing and revisiting his old work.

I read somewhere (probably something to do with Aero) that JMJ originally intended his music to be in surround sound. Of course the technology wasn't there until recently, so I would like to see him revisit his more successful albums and remix them into surround sound. Would love to hear Rendez Vous 2 in 5.1 for example.

I think its fair to say that we would love all his previous works re-done in 5.1. I have also thought how great it would be for him to perform some real forgotten gems live. i.e Deserted palace, les granges. Some of the tracks on deserted palace have some great potential, if they where re-recorded with todays technology.

My personal opinion is that most of the music on both of the pre-Oxygene albums is pretty bad, and I can see why he tried so hard to block their distribution.

Although, I like La Cage and Erosmachine. Someone pointed out to me years and years ago that the spring sound from Chronologie Part 2 was lifted right off Erosmachine. I thought it was a nice touch, the way he made reference to one of his earliest works from within a modern work.

I find the pre-Oxygene stuff fascinating. Listening to it you'd never have imagined that Oxygene would have come next, but listening to it having heard Oxygene is almost like hearing JMJ experimenting with his synthesizers to develop the knowledge that enabled Oxygene to be so magical. The early stuff is perhaps not for those who are only into the music, but is definitely for those who are into the synths and the sounds and want to get a glimpse of how the seeds were planted - those early releases were the green shoots that later blossomed into a beautiful garden.

Oxygene & Equinoxe are the 2 best albums JMJ has done...Don't get me wrong here...I love all of them with all my heart and I'll give Oxygene & Equinoxe 10/10 and the others 9.5/10 :lights: LOL...

I think Equinoxe is also a Classic and what confirmed JMJ as the best out there after Oxygene...

Even if I want to see and hear lots of new materials from JMJ in the next few years and a new album soon, something in the meantime has got to be done for the 30th anniversary of Equinoxe.

    I'd love that...

    Hi

this is my first post in the forum

Going to see JMJ do Oxygene in Dublin in March and can't wait

I also hope that if it's successful it will spawn a similar tour in a year or two performing the even better, IMO work Equinoxe
